ARTIST IN CONVERSATION- sunday discussion, March 28, 2021
Last night we had a really nice session about how young and prosperous dance artist can shape the cultural change. Despite really unstable internet connection I could intuitively manage linked pieces together to understand what Becky Namgauds, dance artist and choreographer wanted to say regarding the subject "Communicating ideas". I am very grateful for her honesty and so open minded sharing experience. Sometimes is really hard to words or trying to articulate relationship between the art and life, between power, control, sexuality, negativity, femininity, freedom, hierarchy, ...What actually involving us actively as an artists? how we can communicate, define, understand? what language to use? yesterday we had a chance to see how powerful images can be, but how powerful words (rupi kaur's poem) can be and how this can work on our body and mind! we definitely need space for the dialogue, create new narratives, new places, being present and brave or like in the end of session Helen said that even with the small steps we will get somewhere, for example start from our professional practice. Angela mentioned that if we do not change (in)side, we are in perpetually in the status quo. So, fluidity of thoughts, sharing experience, giving voice to the things, even through the blog, sharing things ( even when we talk about vulnerability, relationship to the body, femicid, eco-feminism) is needed. There is so much potentiality for sharing, for getting connected, for bringing things in public and articulate it in you own best artistic way.
Amazing thoughts Sandra, as you said, we have the power of changing through sharing, listening and making decisions!
ReplyDeleteHi Laura, thank you for your reply...I think everyone's story, experience, work matters, and from that point we should start...:)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. I have been trying to implement those small changes on those micros levels Helen talked about. I think as dancers or artists there can be this desire to change so much or to change it well for everyone. But there is a beautiful evolution in those subtle moments, teaching, and conversations! Thank you
ReplyDeleteHi Julianna, thank you for your thoughts:)
DeleteI think everyone's voice, doings or words matter! and this is something from where we should all start on. To be awake, aware, and all right with ourselves is the good start to do good things.:) this is small, but not irrelevant. with those three things i am sure the world can be better too.
thank you:)
Hi Sandra, thank you for sharing with us. I wanted to continue the idea of the power of support, listening, empathising and giving feedback. Making even a small connection with our fellow MA students, educators, artists who put their most personal feelings / work out there into the bare all society we seem to be part of, is a caring step in creating a safe honest environment where we trust we can open up new dialogues, bounce ideas and find new innovative ways to communicate through language, movement and new approaches as we find our way in the pathway of dance as educators.
ReplyDeleteThank you
hi Linda :)
Deletethank you for your sharing..if we make small steps every day, these steps in one week becomes bigger then they were of the first day, and so on...we must introduce joy and passion in our education, in giving a voice, in performances and communicate through different tools and languages, and show through movement, dance, art empowerment of the individual(S).
Thank you
