Hello! Here is my new video dance performance which I made for the Laban Conference last week. I made this video on the rooftop of my apartment and the music is made by talented Azerbaijani music maker Anar Shahi/Anesthesia
Sola/Soma (Alone) is a 15 minutes new solo play by author, choreographer and dancer Sandra Šok, which is also a continuation of her solo called HUMBLE BEGINNING premiered at the Cairo Opera House in 2016, which was a somatic and philosophical entry to the inner world of the dancer divided into two halves. Current mode of behavior and experience are reflected in the ways in which I move/think within my current life. From a Laban perspective a performer is an individual who carry with them ‘shadow movements’ that reflect various dimensions of inner life. One’s ‘moving alter ego’ could be seen as a sort of submerged shadow character. Author is talking clear about the feminine side in this story, about accepting vulnerability, freedom of movement expression and diversity, equality, self-acceptance and darkness and shadow of her mind as a main protagonist in this performance. Affected by this ambiguity, her goal is to discover “brighter” side of life at the cost of her own destructiveness. Dialoguing both with the her own self and the others (audience) she is aiming to create a vivid and creative interrelation within the space, dynamic atmosphere and performing spot.
Briefly about me and how Irmgard and Laban’s concepts influenced my art…
I am a freelance somatic and contemporary movement dancer, researcher and facilitator, dance scholar, movement artist and performer. Always try to combine a set of movement principles and elements into one synergy and give participants one new and holistic healthy approach to body and mind involving LBMS in Body Connectivity. By using these vocabulary I am placing awareness of sight, senses, listening, touch, refinement in use of the body, clarity, sensory-motor connections, utilizing maximum core and breath support and finally finding personal uniqueness where movement becomes a uniquely personal journey.
...."All is between peace and conflict, gravity and verticality, relationship with the air and the ground, but the strong awareness of dynamic alignment, neck-pelvis-toe connection, self-perception and breath in the conscious movement”...
