PLACE OR SPACE///PART 2....thoughts from residency
I am continuing with thinking about the meaning of place/space...today I would give attention more to the space within, in our body, hidden behind bones and muscles, maybe the most negotiable place in the world...Without communication there is no progression, no movement, no tiny step...and I was thinking lately how my lower spine is so stiffed, no matter how much I am working out, practicing, meditating, there is always a slow communication between upper and lower part and lower spine is the place where movement starts, where our confidence and safety lives..
Today I integrated semi-structured somatic practices and contemporary dance training and realized when I do that kind of class, the result is that I am increasing bodily connection, creativity, confidence, non-judging and critical understanding of philosophy underlying somatic work. Structural work, yes but blended with play, creativity and imagination:)
Somatics as a field continues to rely on subjective experience and primary focuses on how adapts to the continual flow of information gathered through interoceptive (defined as the sense of the internal state of the body; this can be both conscious and non-conscious), proprioceptive and kinaesthetic sensing.
The benefits of contemporary training allows you to increase the power, it is an aerobic training and allows you also endurance and improve breathing. This practice strengthens the abdominal muscles, regulates the heart rate and fully trains the body, develops your talent and enables you to move gracefully, in a perfect alignment with your inner balance. It is also a discipline gives you critical thinking skills. In dance classes, especially ballet, dancers may practice skills and exercises until the cows come home. This kind of learning skills may be challenging and how to communicate those steps emotionally creates critical thinking. Contemporary techniques focus on floorwork, using gravity to pull them down to the floor.
An action that is sometimes carried out with difficulty, such as getting up from the floor, becomes fluid and easy and allows the dancer to polish the details of gesture, facial expression.... Bartenieff techniques enhances to use of internal muscles for stabilization and support.
